Fall Arts Workshop SeriesLearn Andean style backstrap weaving with local Taos weaving instructor Kimberly Hamill. The simplest tools - straight sticks and string - are all you need to execute elegant tapestries . This course explores the fascinating and versatile uses for the backstrap loom. The backstrap loom is simple in design, consisting of some straight sticks, rope and a strap behind the weaver's back. It is the only system I have found that allows you carry your whole project with you in your backpack or purse! The backstrap loom is used today all over the world by women and men on the go, and of exquisite weaving traditions. Each member of the class will learn to warp a backstrap loom, plan a project and execute a weaving. This class is for first time weavers as well as expert weavers who want to try something new. This course is 3 days long.
