Saturday’s event provided plenty of action as the remnants of a Friday storm left Taos’ West Basin venue in exceptional conditions. The moisture-packed storm, which forced a weather delay on Friday, was exceptionally windy, resulting in a creamy snow pack that athletes took full advantage of.
Four Iconic German Heroes well Known in Taos before Hollywood Picked up their Story
Long before Claus von Stauffenberg was made famous by Hollywood, Taos Ski Valley’s founder Ernie Blake immortalized him and his companions Hans Oster, Fabian von Schlabrendorff , and Henning von Treskow, key members of the WWII German resistance, by naming ski runs after them. On July 20th, 1944 these aristocratic German soldiers attempted to assassinate Hitler. United Artist’s new movie about the July 20th plot, Valkyrie, stars Tom Cruise and was released in December 2008.
